DEMS welcomes new shift managers

The metro promoted 19 firefighters to shift managers on August 22.

This team, that comprise eight female officers, will lead different fire stations across the metro.

All the promoted fire fighters were given new rank markings and welcomed for to their new roles by Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) head of department Sam Sibande, Emergency Services divisional head Mhlengi Makhubalo and operational manager Lifty Ngoepe.

Sibande highlighted the importance of being a dedicated and passionate firefighter to the newly appointed managers.

He urged them to keep their focus to their line of duty.

The entire assemblage resonated commitment and dedication in their new role.

“We will hit the ground running and immediately add more value to the service,” said Puleng Xoki, one of the shift managers.

Makhubalo placed the rank marking on individuals as a symbol of leadership in their new endeavour.

These promotions are in line with the metro’s vision to empower its employees, especially women, in its work force.

On August 1, city manager Dr Imogen Mashazi called on women in uniform to take advantage of the metro’s vision of empowerment to equip themselves academically and professionally.
