As women celebrated Women’s Day in various parts of the country, Kathorus was no exception.
In Thokoza, to celebrate Women’s Day, women gathered at the Wheelz N Smoke , an entertainment arena between Klip River and Kromvlei roads in Thokoza in Ekurhuleni. The event was graced by Khanyi Mbau, an actress and singer, who was a special guest at the “car spinning event”.
Wheelz N Smoke focused more on hosting women by staging a spinderella – an event to honour women spinners. The event took place on Saturday.

One of the spinners, Synovia “Novisto” Smith, said: “ I fell in love with spinning a long time ago as my husband was a spinner. I then took it upon myself to be a spinner as well.
“The spinderella started last year and I was part of its establishment. Should it continue, I’ll still partake in it.”
Ayanda Mbele, co-owner of Wheelz N Smoke, and the organiser said: “I started spinderella last year, this is the second one.
“My husband and I started Wheelz N Smoke seven years ago. I noticed that it’s always been guys spinning.
“So I thought I should bring women spinners together in this male-dominated event.
“I chose August as it is our month as women to celebrate.”
Mbele said if the event was well supported, it will be a regular feature for years to come.
