Hijacked car recovered by police

Vehicle thieves are keeping the police on their toes.

Members of the Germiston Flying Squad recovered a hijacked red Toyota Etios sedan abandoned in Dikole Section in Katlehong in the early hours of July 18.

According to Const Ntombikayise Ngcobo, the Germiston Flying Squad’s media officer, Warrant Officer Lesetja Mahlong, was on night patrol duty when he saw the vehicle parked in Dikole Section in Katlehong.

Mahlong made inquiries about the vehicle’s details on the SAPS radio communication system, and was informed that the vehicle had been hijacked by four men earlier near the Caltex filling station in Khumalo Section. One of the hijackers was described as armed with a pepper spray.

The vehicle was screened for finger prints at the scene of crime before it was towed to the SAPS car storage.

No arrest had been made at the time of going to press.
