Intensive operation leads to arrest of five on narcotics charges

Various drugs seized in EMPD operation.

The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit embarked on an intensive operation following a tip-off from concerned members of the public regarding narcotics, last Monday and Tuesday.

During the operation, narcotics were confiscated from identified houses and suspects were brought to book.

EMPD officers arrested five men on charges of possession of and dealing in illicit substances.

Ten ziplock bags of dagga to the value of R2 000, 36 pieces of rock and a quarter tablet of Mandrax, priced at R7 700, were seized in Dinwiddie and Vosloorus, respectively.

“A 24-year-old picked up in Dinwiddie last Monday was found with dagga and R400 cash,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, media liaison for the EMPD.

“He was arrested and taken to the Germiston Police Station.

“Four other suspects, aged between 18 and 56 years old, were arrested last Tuesday after being found in possession of rock and Mandrax at various houses in Vosloorus.

They were escorted to the Vosloorus Police Station.

All five suspects were charged with possession of and dealing in illicit substances and are expected to appear in the Germiston and Vosloorus Magistrate’s Courts soon.
