Eleven arrested in stop-and-search

Katlehong police continued their efforts to curb crime in their precinct.

In their continued efforts to curb crime in Katlehong, and increase police visibility Katlehong, SAPS conducted a stop-and-search operation on Thursday.

During the operation, carried out by members of the Katlehong Police Crime Prevention Unit and detectives from the Katlehong Police Station, 11 suspects were nabbed.

The suspects were arrested for various offences.

Charges included:

• Possession of an unlicensed firearm: 4

• Business robbery: 1

• Shoplifting: 1

• Common assault: 1

• Hijacking: 1

• Theft: 1

• Dealing in drugs: 1

• Possession of drugs: 1

Katlehong SAPS station commander Brig Sammy Thambo encouraged the community to report crimes as soon as they happen and in turn pushed officers to make speedy arrests.

“As soon as the docket is registered and the suspect is known, police must immediately go out to arrest a suspect,” he said.

All of the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court where the cases were postponed for various reasons.
