Man employed for many years with a fraudulent ID

A case of fraud (misrepresentation of ID) has been opened at the Boksburg North SAPS and the suspect will appear in court soon.

A 39-year-old man from Jerusalem squatter camp was arrested on April 23 for being in possession of a stolen green bar-coded identity document.

According to Const Justice Ramaube, spokesperson for Boksburg North SAPS, a 41-year-old man who lives in Diepsloot lost his green bar-coded identity document in Alexandra in 2002.

He reported it to the Alexandra SAPS and received an affidavit as proof.

“Seventeen years later he was retrenched from work and went to claim his UIF from the Department of Labour. He was then told that he won’t be able to get his money because he was still employed at some company in Boksburg North,” said Ramaube.

Upon investigation, the company acknowledged having an employee bearing the same identity document at their business.

According to Ramaube, the 39-year-old suspect confessed to buying the identity document for R200 in Alexandra from an unknown man.

“The suspect claimed he put his picture on the identity document. Ever since then the suspect had allegedly managed to work for different companies.

“He worked at the company in Boksburg North from February 2016. The suspect claims he has also opened a bank account,” Ramaube said.
