Resident’s opinions about president Ramaphosa

“I believe in him. Under his leadership the country is in good hands,” said Sithole.

During the ANC manifesto rally in Vosloorus recently, Kathorus MAIL managed to speak to a few people to hear their opinions and they had different things to say about the president.

Busisiwe Mayekiso, a young ANC supporter from Vosloorus, said there are two things she likes about Ramaphosa.

“Firstly, his vision to create job opportunities seems as if it will yield good results. However, for his vision to succeed, he must get rid of the corrupt politicians. Secondly, there is a Youth Internship Programme that he started. It does not only give opportunities to particular individuals, but everyone who applies stands a good chance of getting an internship. I got an internship there myself. This is a sign that he really wants to get rid of corruption,” said Mayekiso.

Sceluxolo Mthethwa, a young, unemployed woman from the community, said she is disappointed.

“I do not understand why political party leaders always talk about child grant money when they are reeling in votes. What about us who don’t have children? Are they encouraging us to have children so that we can qualify for grants and have money? I think leaders are the ones who encourage teenage pregnancies. I don’t have anything against the child grant, but I would have loved to hear his plan of action about creating jobs for the youth instead of making the youth rely on child grants,” said Mthethwa.

Gogo Jeanette Mageba (75) said she believes  a failure because he failed to get rid of the corrupt officials who work at the Department of Human Settlement.

“I have been on the RDP waiting list since 1994. People who registered before have houses already. I don’t know how. Maybe it is because I don’t have money to pay for it. I think Ramaphosa has kept the corrupt officials for too long,” Mageba.

Another pensioner, Mlungisi Sithole, said the fact that Ramaphosa’s son, Andile, had allegations against him and the president did not defend him, is a good sign and shows that the president does not want anything to do with corruption.
