The Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters, from Primrose Fire Station, responded to a multiple shack fire at the Makause informal settlement, last Saturday.
“At around 10.41pm firefighters saw thick black smoke emerging from within the settlement and immediately responded,” explained William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.
“The firefighters were met with hostility when they made their way into the informal settlement with community members throwing an assortment of objects at the team preventing them from executing their duties with ease.”
