Zonkizizwe SAPS puts five behind bars for stealing cables

Communications officer at Zonkizizwe SAPS, Sgt Rufus Tema, said the police had earlier received an anonymous tip-off of people burning what looked like cables.

On March 19 at about 1pm, Zonkizizwe SAPS Intelligence Unit arrested five men in an open veld in Zone Five, Zonkizizwe.

Four of the suspects, aged between 23 and 41, were arrested for being found in possession of suspected stolen copper cables. Another suspect aged 33 was arrested for bribery.

“Indeed on their arrival at the scene, they found the four men burning the cables and failed to give an account of the ownership thereof. The suspects were immediately arrested,” said Tema.
