Breakfast for the elderly

The ANC Ekurhuleni region hosted a Breakfast with Senior Citizens on March 12 at the Vosloorus Civic Centre.

ANC chief whip of council Jongizizwe Dlabathi engaged with elderly people from the Ekurhuleni region. Other breakfast events took place in Tsakane, Tembisa and Daveyton.

The purpose of this event attended by hundreds of senior citizens was to honour them.

Delivering his speech, Dlabathi said it was important for the ANC to engage with the elderly in order to draw strength and wisdom from them.

He said this country is enjoying democracy because of the struggle elderly people went through in fighting the system prior to 1994.

“Young people are benefiting all this democracy has brought because of your undying contribution. That is why we must always remember your contribution to freeing our beautiful country from apartheid,” said Dlabathi.

He appealed to the elderly to register for the indigent programme the City is running so they can benefit from it. The programme will see people who cannot afford to pay for municipal services qualify to have free services, such as sufficient water, basic sanitation, refuse removal, environmental health, basic energy, healthcare, housing, food and clothing.
