Cele summons top cops to Pretoria

Highly-placed sources within the SAPS, speaking on condition of anonymity, have confirmed a meeting convened by Police Minister Bheki Cele scheduled for Pretoria this morning.

Though the sources could not confirm the reason for the meeting, speculation around the “urgent” meeting with SAPS station commanders throughout the country could revolve around the following issues:

• The unprotected strike action by members of the SAPS.

• The high crime rate in the country.

• The forthcoming general election in May.

• The politicised xenophobic narrative against the so-called foreign national.

•The high volumes of domestic violence, spousal murders and child abuse.

• The police promotion within the SAPS.
