Artist finds his feet in music industry

Clement Mulenga, who is well known as Moolanair in the music industry, is a multi-talented singer, songwriter, rapper and producer, born in Germiston.

He discovered his love for music at the tender age of 10 at a talent show held at his primary school at the time.

He said his love for soul and pop music grew deeper after listening to Dolly Parton and Michael Jackson’s Thriller album.

“I used to go on trips with my dad and he would play soulful music all the time. I never understood that type of music at that point in time, but that’s where my love for it began.”

In 2008, Moolanair’s father died and he was raised by his mom, who had to provide for him as well as for four of his siblings.

“My mom used to have to do double shifts to make sure we all stayed in school. Every day after high school I would rush home and change and then head to the studio. That is where I learnt about music producing and finding my own style and voice,” said Moolanair.

Moolanair’s style of music is influenced by hip-hop heavyweights such as Jay-Z, 50 Cent and J. Cole and his rhymes and sound are not short of freshness.

In 2016, Moolanair shot his first music video, titled Serious, which was a single from his mixtape 619, which was never released.
