Woman nabbed for possession of unlicensed firearm

Zonkizizwe Police arrested a 31-year-old woman for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Zone Five on Friday, February 15.

Communications official at Zonkizizwe SAPS, Sgt Rufus Tema, said the police were on a special crime prevention operation when they received a tip-off about somebody in possession of a firearm.

“The information led the police to a house in Zone Five where the suspect was found. Upon searching, a 9mm Star Pistol loaded with live rounds was found. The suspect, who was immediately arrested, faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said Tema.

He said the firearm with its serial number filed off will be taken for ballistic examination to determine if it was involved in the commission of any crime.

“Three more suspects were arrested for drunk driving, rape and assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm,” said Tema.

The above suspects are expected to appear in Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court soon to face their charges.
