Ubuntu breakfast run to be held

Bikers from various parts of the continent took part in the fourth instalment of the annual Ubuntu Breakfast Run (UBR) at Puzey Bikers Warehouse in Malibongwe Drive in Pretoria on January 27.

This year’s run, organised in conjunction with the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, saw different clubs from Kathorus and other parts of the East Rand converge at Alberton before departing to the bikers’ warehouse in Pretoria and thereafter en route to their final destination at the Hartbeespoort Resort.

Gauteng bikers’ organiser Camza Neokoke said the UBR is built on four pillars of brotherhood which is love, loyalty, honour and respect (LLHR).

“Brotherhood is a term within the biking fraternity used to reflect on the type of brotherly relationships formed over time by a band of brothers or sisters united by the common goal of unity and love for the motorcycle,” said Neokoke.

He said the purpose of this annual event is to gather under one roof as many bikers as possible.

“Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane addressed the bikers about their safety on the road,” said Neokoke.

Delivering her talk, Nkosi-Malobane pleaded with bikers to ensure their safety on the road by wearing helmet, gloves and boots.

She also said bikes must be roadworthy and well-serviced and to have discs.

The event simultaneously took place in nine provinces of South Africa and other African countries that include Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland, Nigeria, Morocco, Namibia, Angola and Mozambique.

Neokoke thanked GTPD for always being available to escort them.
