Help Radebe family rebuild their house

Trevor Radebe (34) from Vosloorus Extension Two is pleading for help to rebuild his family home, which burnt down last year.

“This unfortunate accident happened last year in June 2018,” recalled Radebe. “Our home burnt down and we lost most of our belongings. With God’s grace our wonderful neighbours were able to donate what they could, from food to clothing and some appliances as well as money, though the money was not enough to rebuild our home.”

He said his ward councillor (Ward 46) promised to help rebuild their home.

Radebe said: “He came over to us on the same day as the fire. I would like to thank him for supplying blankets for those days while we were taken in by one of our neighbours. An NGO called Gentlemen Alive also assisted to rebuild two rooms of the six-room house. They also bought us a bed, a two-plate stove, paint, plates and cutlery as well as clothes.”

The Radebe family members are doing their best to gather building materials to rebuild their home. The family has been able to gather 200 tiles and piles of building sand and river sand, although some of it washed away in the rains.

Radebe said it is difficult to get help from the neighbours because his family has eight members.

“Even if people want to take us in to live with them, who can accommodate a family of eight, including three children who are still attending school, my dad who is a pensioner, my sister who fell ill and cannot work, my cousin and my cousin’s sister, who is staying with us to help look after our ill sister and me?

“Currently I’m back at school after I left retail in 2015. Nobody has a solid income to rebuild the house, so I am pleading with your readers to assist us,” said Radebe.
