Katlehong learners receive a donation of 44 pairs of shoes from KAC.

Learners from Hleziphi, Sonqoba and Nokulunga primary schools were the beneficiaries of this project.

Following a successful School Shoes Drive Marathon on December 31, Katlehong Athletics Club (KAC) members donated 44 pairs of school shoes to three primary schools in Katlehong on January 21 and 22.

“This was the first School Shoe Drive Marathon undertaken to help disadvantaged learners. We are overwhelmed by the support from the running community. As KAC we identified education as one of the projects to support. As results, at the end of last year (December 31) we held the School Shoes Drive Marathon with an aim to collect as many school shoes as we can to donate to underprivileged learners this year. Again, at the beginning of last year, we donated sanitary towels and school shoes to the learners,” said Lwandise Mbhele, one of the KAC athletes.

“We have teachers as members of the club and we listen when they explain the challenges they experience in classrooms,” continued Mbhele.

The 31km marathon to the Mall of the South was held from Captain Findo’s Beer Garden in Ramokonupi Section, Katlehong.

“We would like to urge other community leaders and organisations to think about how we can continue to support underprivileged learners to keep them at school from Grade One until they complete matric,” concluded Mbhele.

The KAC team trains at the Huntersfield Stadium, Katlehong. For further information contact KAC on 071 637 7990 or visit Facebook page www.facebook.com/khgac/
