Afri-Berry wins at sixth annual Africa Hair Awards

Afri-Berry aims to leave behind a legacy and Moeng wants to motivate other women to also turn their tragedies into a success.

Founder of Afri-Berry, Relebogile Moeng (37) walked away with two awards – ‘Best Hair and Beauty Entrepreneur of the Year’ and ‘Natural Hair Product Range of the Year’ – at the 2018 Africa Hair Awards, which took place in Durban over the past weekend.

Moeng said the awards are close to her heart because she is proudly South African and she went home with feelings of achievement and pride.

“Bagging the awards has given the company more recognition.

“It is a blessing to add to other awards we have, to endorse what we do and what we stand for,” said Moeng.

Moeng said that they are blessed as a company to be in Mzansi because they understand the needs of their clients better and they are closer to the people and more involved in community-based events and initiatives.

The former Daveyton resident started her product in 2011, as the result of a tragic accident in 2008 which left her with facial injuries. Moeng said the accident left her with over 150 stiches in her face and she went through countless consultations and expensive medications before eventually being told that the only way to minimise her scarring was through plastic surgery.

“It was cold pressed Argan Oil that yielded results, so following my retrenchment from work, my husband, Fabian, and I decided to do research on skin and hair products.

“This led to the launch of our company in 2011,” she added

Moeng encourages budding entrepreneurs to build a business around a problem that needs to be solved and that you are passionate about fixing or making better.

“There will be challenges, many long nights and stressful situations ahead but having the passion will get you through every time,” Moeng said.

Afri-Berry products are sold at retailers and pharmacies nationwide.
