Police crackdown in Katlehong

Katlehong Police arrested 17 suspects for various charges at the weekend of December 7 and 9, SAPS communications officer Capt Mega Ndobe said.

Ndobe said the Festive Season Operation was led by the Katlehong Crime Prevention unit in conjunction with Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD).

“They conducted the stop-and-search operation, roadblocks and visible policing in Katlehong and the surrounding areas,” said Ndobe.

The suspects were charged for the following crimes:

• Assault: six

• Trespassing: one

• Malicious damage to property: One

• Arson: one

• Driving under the influence of alcohol: eight

Katlehong Station Commander Col Doctor Sibuyi applauded the police for the job well done by the joint operation unit of Katlehong SAPS and EMPD.

“I would like to appeal to the communities of Katlehong to be vigilant all the time especially during the night while walking on the streets. People must always have police contact details wherever they go and promote neighbourhood watch,” said Sibuyi.

The suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on December 10.
