The event took place at the school on November 28.

The purpose of the Pick n Pay Hero Award is to recognise and honour learners who have performed remarkably in the school environment and in the local community.

The group of learners who represent the school in different sports received hero certificate and a R4 000 cash voucher from Pick n Pay while their teacher, Mavis Lepele, received R1 000 and a box of chocolate as a token of appreciation for her selfless effort.

“Gymnastic is a scarce sport in the township. If we had accessories such as a beam and bar, we would have gone all the way to national level. I so wish we can get a sponsor to help us buy those accessories,” said Lepele.

She said if they had these accessories she’ll be able to accommodate children from other schools who are interested in the sport.

“I don’t mind training them at my school.”
