Party Pack gets publishing deal

Mkhelele, a song by East Rand trio Party Pack, gets a heads up and their extended-play (EP) gets a YFM publishing deal.

In addition, the song has over 11 000 downloads on SlikourOnLife.

The trio, Jabu Ndlavini, Rubimol and producer Cydah, describes their sound as Afro trap soul, a combination of different sounds – RnB, trap and gumbafire.

Party Pack met two years ago as individual artists at a mixtape competition, immediately clicked and decided to form the group.

They chose the name Party Pack because it is simple and they are a pack that’s always in a jovial or party mood.

“We do music because that’s all we know and that’s what we are good at,” said rapper Rubimol.

The three always work as a collective, Ndlavini comes up with the vocals and notes, Rubimol with the lyrics and bars while Cydah brings the rhythm and sound.

After the release of Mkhelele online, YFM DJ Josi Chave discovered the song and this landed the trio a publishing deal with the radio station.

The group was also interviewed on Kasie FM.

“When we did the song we were trying to figure out a sound. Little did we know that it would open doors for us,” said Cydah.

All the songs on their EP are a combination of different sounds and emotions.

According to the trio, their EP starts with Mkhelele, which is about motivation to keep pushing no matter the situation and one day you will get where you are going.

This is followed by Kosha, a happy song, and Mjiba, which is a story about the ruggedness of the city of Johannesburg. They came up with the song after one of the members was mugged and his shoes stolen.

Shoot Me Down, which is about personal relationships is also on the EP, as well as Ngiphe, another happy song.

This EP serves as an introduction to the upcoming debut from the group in early 2019.
