WARNING: Weather service warns of strong winds and extremely high fire danger

The South African Weather Service has warned of a high veld fire danger across Gauteng, and other parts of the country.

As the hot and dry weather persists across the country the South African Weather Service has warned of an extremely high fire danger.

The warning has been issued for Gauteng, as well as many other provinces across the country.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions when travelling.

In addition to this warning the weather service has warned of strong, damaging westerly winds that are expected to sweep across the country.

It is predicted that these winds will be most persistent in the afternoons.

The South African Weather Service has warned of :

  • Veld Fire Conditions

Veld fires are expected in places in Gauteng due to the hot weather.

Strong winds are expected in places over Gauteng – mainly during the afternoon

To protect your health during these hot temperatures, which will continue until Friday, remember to keep cool and drink plenty of liquids, and stay out of the sun as much as possible.

Heatstroke and dehydration are a serious risk for both animals and humans during this time.
