Changing society for the better

Miss Eagle South Africa 2018 semi-finalist, Renee Mashala from Hlahatsi Section in Katlehong, aims to inspire and empower learners to have dreams.

Currently completing her psychology qualification at the University of Pretoria, Renee Mashala is using her platform to inspire change in her community.

The 23-year-old from Hlahatsi Section in Katlehong recently made the cut as a semi-finalist in the Miss Eagle South Africa 2018 competition, and has already embarked on a tour of a few local schools to share her passion for education, women and children.

The journey to the finals, set to be held at Suncoast Casino in KwaZulu-Natal on December 17, has been one of self-discovery for Renee.

“The competition has helped me realise that I am resilient, far more courageous than I thought, and I possess a lot of potential.

“Furthermore, it has inspired me to be like an eagle.

“To not be afraid of the storm but to rejoice as it is an opportunity to climb higher,” said Renee.

Having fought hard to be the woman she is today, Renee believes that everyone has goals and a clear vision of how they see themselves; and sometimes having a helping hand is all people need to push harder in achieving those goals.

Renee’s passion for people has propelled her into committing to a life that endeavours to impact the world positively.

The aspiring poet also hopes to reach more lives through her artistry.

“Sharing my poetry has helped me nurture my gift and become a better poet.”

With her newly found confidence and passion for greatness, the semi-finalist not only wants to inspire children but women too.

“Miss Eagle SA is a competition that empowers young women, and being a part of it has made me realise that I have a strong desire to see change in people.

“By being a part of it I can only aim to reflect these values, and try bringing out the best in people.

“My purpose is to give, for if life is not about giving, what is it about then?” asked Renee.
