Zonkizizwe police, in collaboration with Community Policing Forum (CPF), Men As Safety Promoters, Youth Crime Prevention Desk, Victim Support Centre, Patrollers, Sunbake Bakery and Break-Through (NPO), celebrated Heritage Month with children at the Little Paradise Daycare and Pre-School in Zone 6 Zonkizizwe on September 26.
The event, headed by Youth Crime Prevention Desk under Tumane Modise, its chairperson, imparted cultural values and customs which every child is expected to practice.
The energetic Modise, clad in his colourful Sesotho regalia, explained to the audience the origins of his clan name. As he did that, the audience cheered and ululated.
He encouraged the audience to embrace and respect different cultural practices.
“No culture should be viewed as inferior or superior over others. Let us teach our children to follow in the footsteps of our forefathers who respected each other and never got involved in bad practices,” he said.

The children, immaculately dressed in different cultural attires, entertained the audience by performing various traditional songs.
Traditional food was served.
Pre-school principal Mme Motshanyelo thanked the audience for contributing to the success of the event.
The celebration continued on September 29 and was hosted by the police at the local police station, with the police and CPF taking part in the event.
This was more than a celebration. It also promoted team spirit and cooperation among all who are involved in the fight against crime.

Members were divided into four groups and competed for positions of the best-dressed group as well for the position of the best cooked traditional food.
Station commander Lt Col Munaf Ismail thanked all members who participated in the event.
“This was not necessarily about winning, but about interaction and knowing each there better. We are all winners,” he said.
