Katha Day Care celebrates Women’s Day

Katha Day Care, based in Ward 59 in Katlehong, held a special ceremony on August 8 to honour women who run non-profit organisations that work with the learning centre.

The celebration was held in line with National Women’s Day on August 9.

Women from Wards 52 and 59, staff from Ramokonopi Clinic and former councillor of Ward 59 Morongoe Ndebele blessed the day with their presence.

Memory Makgetha, the child and youth care worker at Katha Day Care, said they decided to have the celebration a day before Women’s Day because they are aware that many people might choose to attend the national event at the Union Building on August 9.

“People might not be around on August 9, that is why we chose to celebrate the day today,” said Makgetha.

She said the purpose of the day is to honour women who are working hand in hand with Katha Day Care.

“There are women who run NGOs like Katleho Community-Based Care Centre and Recovery Village who help us to run this education centre. They are always here when we need them. They never disappoint. They help to take care of children who are not their own. That is why we had to do something special to show our appreciation of the good job they are doing,” explains Makgetha.

Guests who attended were treated to music by Katha Day Care staff members, the ANC Women’s League and children from the educational centre. A poem that applauds the work of women was recited by Nompumelelo Radebe, a care worker at Katha Day Care Centre, while sister Neo Giwu from Ramokonopi Clinic gave a motivational talk.
