AIC celebrate Youth Day

The African Independent Congress (AIC) in Gauteng celebrated Youth Day on June 16 at Ramaphosa Informal Settlement in Eden Park.

The event was organised by AIC Youth League.

During the event, different stakeholders, including Informal Settlement Network (ISN), Poor People Movement (PPM) and Blue Stove were present.

The AIC spokesperson, Reverand Mxolisi Koom, said the purpose of the day was to address issues such as homicide, the killing of people living with albinism, women abuse, crime, as well as xenophobia.

“Those are the issues that affect the community. So as a people-centred organisation, we have decided to come to the poor people of the informal settlement to address these issues here,” said Koom.

He said xenophobia started in Ekurhuleni in 2008.

The community members were given Blue Stoves as presents.

Koom said the stove is good for people living in the informal settlement as it offers green energy.

In terms of entertainment, one of the famous singers Ntshebe Ziyathandwa entertained the crowd with music.

There were also local sporting activities whereby football cheered the community.
