Attend the old age home’s AGM

Vosloorus Old Age Home will hold its annual general meeting (AGM) to elect new board members.

The AGM will take place at the old age home’s hall on May 27 at 11am.

According to Palesa Molefe, who is one of the nurses at the home and the branch secretary of the National Education Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu), this will be the fourth AGM since her arrival at the home in 2011.

“We would like everyone from the community to be part of it since board members are supposed to be non-staff members,” said Molefe.

She said there was supposed to have been an AGM on April 21 but it did not take place because the required number of people did not attend.

“Besides very few members of the community attending that meeting, most of the people who came are staff members, so we did not make the quorum,” Molefe added.

She elaborated that paragraph 4.3 of the document titled “Gauteng Social Development Guidelines for the Selection of Board Members for NPOs” gives them the right to announce the AGM in local newspapers.

It reads: “The call for nomination of board members should be done through the local newspaper, pamphlets, stakeholder meetings, community imbizo etc. Announcements should be made through local churches and or any other means of communication in a specific community.”

She said members of the community are invited to come and select the board members.
