Vosloorus Old Age Home celebrates Mother’s Day

The ANC Women’s League in Ward 44 partnered with the Gauteng Young Women Entrepreneurs to organise a Mother’s Day celebration for pensioners who reside at the old age home in Vosloorus on May 13.

Ruth Sibeko, ANC Women’s League deputy zonal secretary of Grace Flathela Zone, said they wanted to make gogos from the old age home feel special.

“To show how special they are, we have decided to offer them a free massage, manicure and a healthy lunch,” said Sibeko.

“These gogos gave birth to us, so we wanted to make them smile broadly today.”

Happy Mhlongo, a nurse manager at the old age home, said they are taking care of the well-being of old people.

“We are doing total nursing care – psychological, physical and spiritual care of the old people. We bring services to those who can’t go to church and make sure they take their medication,” said Mhlongo.

She explained the challenges they are facing at the home.

“We do not have resources to make our gogos feel special and feel at home. They have no storage places like wardrobes for their clothes,” Mhlongo explained.

She added if community members can pay them a visit it will mean a lot.

“They will feel loved and appreciated.”

Mhlongo pleaded with local business people to offer any form of a donation to the home as there is a great need for mattresses and blankets.

Tsidi Mosebetsi, the chairperson of ANC Women’s League from Ward 43, was also present.

She said the event was well planned.

“We want to do the same thing for the gogos in our ward next year. This ward has shown us how it is done,” said Mosebetsi.
