Suspects arrested for possession of dagga and nyaope

Katlehong SAPS, in partnership with the Crime Prevention Unit and detectives, arrested 30 suspects on Sunday, April 15, in Katlehong and surrounding areas.

Katlehong SAPS communications official Capt Mega Ndobe said: “Eight suspects were arrested for assault, including serious assaults. Three suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, one suspect was arrested for theft and another one for being found in possession of suspected stolen property. Another suspect was arrested for shoplifting.”

He said most of the suspects were arrested for being found in possession of drugs such as dagga and nyaope.

Acting station commander Col Nomthandeki Mthembu was impressed with the joint operation.

“I wish such operations could continue. I am appealing to the community of Katlehong to work hand in hand with the police in the fight against crime. Or they can join hands with patrollers and the community policing forum,” said Mthembu.

She said those who are interested in working with the police voluntarily are welcome to do so.

“They can come to Katlehong Police Station and ask for CPF chairperson Ashley Masina,” said Mthembu.

All the suspects are expected to appear in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
