KAC to host 60km long run

Katlehong Athletics Club (KAC) will host its 60km long Comrades Marathon training run on Friday, April 27.

The run to Heidelberg will start at the Chris Hani Mall at 5am and finish at the same venue. It will follow the Old Heidelberg Road, which offers a similar run to the Comrades’ down-run.

KAC chairman Hloni Motloung said: “Runners in and around the Kathorus area who will be participating in this year’s Comrades Marathon on June 10 are welcome to join the training assimilation run.

“We will charge an R80 fee per participation. That small amount will be used for transportation and refreshments along the route during the training.”

KAC has decided to use this long run to honour Isaac Mabula, the legendary runner who will be completing his 29th Comrades race this year.

“Since 1982, Isaac Mabula has completed 28 Comrades finishes in Katlehong Athletics Club colors and operated two buses where he guided a group of runners from start to finish. His medals tally is four silver medals, two Bill Rowan medals, two Vic Clapham copper medals and 20 bronze medals. He has also guided over 150 novice runners in completing their Comrades Marathon,” said Motloung.

KAC hosts its time trials every Tuesday and Thursday at 9pm at Huntersfield Stadium. The club runs every weekend from Mtsiri Corner in Ramokonupi Section.
