A 26-year-old man was stabbed to death in Thokoza on March 3.
It is alleged that the deceased was trying to separate a group of men having an argument.
Communications officer at the Thokoza Police Station Capt Buyisile Mvelase said the deceased was drinking with friends at a local tavern.
“The deceased saw a group of men who were involved in an argument and tried to intervene. One man from the group took out a knife and stabbed him in the chest,” said Mvelase.
He said the man was rushed to a nearby clinic.
“He was certified as dead on his arrival as a result of the stab wound.”
Furthermore, Mvelase said the Thokoza SAPS started with their investigation which led to a 24-year-old man being arrested.
“The 24-year-old suspect was arrested the following day in Vereeniging for the murder of the 26-year-old man.”
He was detained at the Thokoza Police Station and has appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on March 6. He is facing murder charges.
