Report vehicles which reappear at crime scenes

Katlehong communities, especially those around the areas of Sectors 1 and 2, are warned to be on the lookout for a silver VW Polo which is suspected of being used to collect and ferry stolen goods.

According to Katlehong police records, in almost every reported burglary which has occurred in these areas, witnesses have mentioned the same vehicle. A Polo fitting the same description is allegedly often seen at houses where a burglary has been reported.

Police believe criminals may be using the vehicle to load stolen goods at crime scenes. The occupants of the vehicle seem to target homes where the occupants are either away at work, visiting elsewhere or when the children are at school.

The Kathorus SAPS is appealing to members of the public with information about this vehicle, its occupants or owner, to inform the local police on 011 617 3661 or 08600 10111. Acting station commander Col Nomthandeki Mthembu urges communities to work with police in the fight against crime.

Mthembu also encourages communities to promote neighbourhood watches in their respective areas. “Keep an eye open while your neighbour is away,” she said, adding that members of the public are welcome to knock on her door at all times with suggestions.
