Man found dead in the veld

A man was found dead and a stolen car was recovered in a piece of open veld between Moagi and Mmogwere Streets, next to Real Zone Spin City, in Extension 28, Vosloorus.

The community first saw the body of a man lying in the veld. Later they realised that a car that was parked about four to five metres away from where the body was found might have been stolen. The community members quickly alerted the police to the incidents.

Both incidents were reported to the police late at night on Tuesday, February 27.

Vosloorus SAPS communications officer Capt Piet Rossouw said the police received a complaint of a dead man. “The complaint came from the community members who reside next to the scene of the crime,” said Rossouw.

He said the police came to the crime scene and found the deceased lying on his left side. “Both his hands and feet were tied with plastic tapes.”

He said there were no witnesses on the scene. “Suspects are not known and the deceased is still unknown.

“It looks like he was beaten to death somewhere and was dumped at the scene. And it looked like he was there for a while as he was giving off a bad smell.”

Zonkizizwe SAPS communications officer Sgt Rufus Tema, who was on stand-by when the two incidents were reported, confirmed that a white Ford Ranger single cab was recovered a few metres away from where the body was found. “The vehicle was stolen in Heidelburg, so it has a Heidelburg case number. The owner of the car confirmed that he opened a case of a stolen vehicle the same day as it was recovered.”

Asked whether the two cases are related or not, Tema said: “That is subject to the police investigation.”

The investigation is continuing.
