Ekurhuleni West Cluster arrests over 100 suspects

Ekurhuleni West Cluster, which consists of 12 police stations, collectively arrested 100 suspects over the weekend during joint operation.

Suspects were arrested for various offences during the operations conducted by crime prevention members, detectives and Ekurhuleni Metro Police (EMPD) between Friday, February 23 and Sunday, February 25.

Communication official at Katlehong SAPS, Capt Mega Ndobe, said the suspects were arrested for various offences such as assaults which include various assaults where domestic violence cases were registered.

“Others were arrested for fraud, murder, theft, robbery, attempted murder, intimidation, or for being found in possession of an illegal firearm,” said Ndobe.

He said other suspects were arrested for being found in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, for malicious damage to property, for using motor vehicles without the owners’ consent, for interfering with police duties, for driving under the influence of alcohol and for selling liquor without a licence.

Ndobe said other suspects were arrested for shoplifting and the possession of dagga and nyaope.

Suspects are expected to appear in Germiston, Vosloorus and Palm Ridge courts soon according to their charges.

The investigation is ongoing. “The operation is continuing,” said Ndobe.
