Local church hosts couples seminar

The sixth instalment of the Couples Seminar was held at Shailoh Conquerors Church in Mabuya Park, Vosloorus, on Saturday, February 17.

Couples from the church and the wider community came to listen to the inspiring speeches.

Delivering her speech, Pastor Sibongile Mahloko, one of the organisers of the seminar, said the purpose was to promote stronger marriages.

“People enter into marriages because of material things. If material things are no longer there, couples experience separations,” she said.

She said as the church they want couples to know the importance of marriage and that people can still stay together even if there is no money.

“As Christians we want to discourage divorce as it is not part of our culture,” said Mahloko. “It is important to invite God into your marriage as He is a solution for most of the problems couples come across in their marriages,” she said.

Thobile Mlangeni, one of the speakers, said, “Being a leader begins at home. If you can’t lead at home you can’t make a good leader of the church.”

She said men must take care of their wives.

“Do not miss an opportunity to spoil your wife while you are still alive. Even a bottle of perfume means a lot to your loved one,” she said.

Pastor Busisiwe Pefile, the speaker of the day, said she invited God into her marriage 10 years after she got married.

“If I knew, I would have done it earlier. There were many problems that nearly cost me my marriage before I accepted God into it,” said Pefile.

She said her husband accepted God into their marriage three months after she did.

“Our married life changed. There has been peace in our marriage ever since,” said Pefile.

She said she has a problem-solver in her marriage who will never listen to their problems and then gossip about it.

“I wish all couples will invite Him into their marriages,” she said.
