Charges laid against police colonel

A 35-year-old single Katlehong mother whose rape case against her married former boyfriend was thrown out of court due to lack of evidence has now laid a case of defeating the ends of justice against a top SAPS colonel.

The woman, who cannot be named, told Kathorus MAIL that she still has two other pending charges against several police officers at the Ramokonopi Police Station who, she claimed, jeopardised her case and led to the accused being set free.

“I am aggrieved and feel my rights have been abused by the very people who are supposed to protect us against crime,” said the Siluma View resident.

According to *Dolores, her troubles started on December 13, 2017

Dolores explained that when she went to the Ramokonopi Police Station to lay a charge of rape, the police refused to take her to hospital to be examined by a doctor.

She has since blamed a police colonel at the station, whose name is known to Kathorus MAIL, of defeating the ends of justice. She claimed the colonel told her to accept an amount of money the suspect was offering to have her drop the charges.

Dolores claimed the suspect offered her R200 000, to be paid to her in instalments of R5 000 a month. She claimed the colonel facilitated this money offer.

“I refused to accept the offer or to sign a document absolving my ex-boyfriend from the rape charge. I insisted on proceeding with the case,” she said.

Since the case was thrown out of court on January 16, Dolores said she now lives in fear of her life after several mysterious incidents led her to believe that her movements were being monitored.

“One of my friends who has been assisting me with the case was attacked by unknown people and I have also had strangers coming to my house at odd hours of the night,” she said.

Dolores outlined some of the charges she has laid against the police colonel as follows:

• Refused to get her to hospital on time to undergo a rape test

• Encouraged her to accept a bribe from the rape suspect

• Wanted her to accept the suspect’s offer to pay for her medical bills.

When asked about the case, the Kathorus SAPS Cluster media spokesperson, Capt Mega Ndobe, said:

“I can confirm that we have received a defeating the ends of justice complaint laid by a 35-year-old Katlehong female against the SAPS colonel”.
