Bust after two years on the run

A man who has been on the run from the police for the past two years was caught in a surprise stop-and-search raid in Eden Park on the morning of Wednesday, February 8.

The 29-year-old was wanted for possession of dagga and stolen property crimes he committed in Soweto and Brackendowns.

He was arrested during a joint operation by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s (EMPD’s) Drug Law Enforcement Unit and members of the SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit. The operation targeted drug-dealing in Eden Park.

The 29-year-old suspect was one of several people who were ‘morph-touched’ during the stop-and-search operation. His fingerprints returned a positive search result. He has been on the run since 2015.

The man was detained at Eden Park Police Station and is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon, said the EMPD’s Kaizer Kgasago.
