Good Samaritan donates uniforms at a local school
A good Samaritan by the name of Danny Shai from Vosloorus donated uniforms valued at R3200 to needy learners at Vumbeni Primary School on February 2.
Shai said he was passing by the school one day and saw learners that were in desperate need of a uniform.
He told Kathorus MAIL what his motivation was.
“I believe it is not a good thing for a child to go to school without a proper school uniform.
“For a child to feel more welcome and accepted they must be in proper uniform. It builds the children’s self-esteem. High self-esteem makes children perform better at school,” said Shai.
He added that he wants to see these children, whether from poor or rich families, grow and become responsible citizens one day.
He said the school is the first one he bought uniforms for. He is set to visit more schools soon.
Gina Dzukula, a parent to one of the children who benefited from Shai’s kindness, said she can’t thank Shai enough. “I think what Shai did was good. I don’t know what I would have done as we failed both as parents to buy a uniform for our child.
“I think this will develop a love for the school in our child,” said Dzukula.
Sandra Zitha, another parent, said the school has been very helpful.
“They are not only organising uniforms for us, they sometimes give us food parcels as well for us to eat with our children at home. We will encourage other parents to bring their children to this school as it looks out for its children,” said Zitha.
Molapisi Seheshe, the school principal, said he really appreciates what Shai did for the children of his school.
“They will now feel like other children, moreover, they will feel accommodated,” Seheshe said.
Jabulani Khumalo, a school teacher, pleaded with parents to meet Shai halfway.
“Shai spent a lot of money from his own pockets buying uniforms for your children, the least you can do as parents are to buy washing powder for these children so that they will wash their uniform and come to school clean,” said Khumalo.
He said for a child to come to school not wearing a proper uniform has a negative effect on their education.
“I hope this will change the lives of these learners for the better. Praise must go to Mr Shai,” concludes Khumalo.
