Wanted “Banana” to face the music

A 43-year-old crime suspect from Vosloorus, who has been on the police’s most wanted list, has finally been arrested.

The man, nicknamed “Banana”, who lived in Dindela Section, was first convicted in 1994 for a cash heist crime and sentenced to 65 years in jail. But after serving only 17 years of the prison term, Banana was released on parole and had to wear an ankle monitor for 12 months.

However, disappearing from the police monitoring system last November 2017, Gauteng Community Safety and Katlehong SAPS commanders brought on board the EMPD POPs Unit to track Banana down as he was elusive for some time.

The two EMPD Specialised Services Unit members left no stone unturned in gathering information about the wanted man.

Their patience bore fruit and their gallant efforts paid off when, based on information received by the Unit on January 11 at around 5pm, members of the Unit tracked the wanted Banana to his girlfriend’s place where an arrest was effected.

Among the charges the suspect was wanted for are murder, attempted murder, hijacking and breaching of his parole conditions. The murder case allegedly linked Banana to the murder of a Gauteng Community Safety Board member.

He will most likely also be charged with escaping from lawful custody twice at the Boksburg Correctional Services facility.

The 43-year-old old suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
