Senzo’s family to pray for killers’ arrest

In a dramatic bid to prompt Police Minister Fikile Mbalula to help resolve investigations into his son’s murder, Samuel Mayiwa, the father of slain former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, is reported to have invited the minister to a three-day prayer meeting to be held at the family home in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal this weekend.

The prayer gathering, which is believed to have been arranged by members of the dead soccer star’s bereaved family and fellow congregants of the Holy Apostolic Faith Church, will start on Friday (January 26) and run until Sunday. The aim is to pray for the arrest of the killer or killers of Senzo Meyiwa.

Expected to join the prayer gathering in large numbers are scores of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana supporters in the area.

Also among them will be Senzo’s traditional wife, Mandisa Mkhize, who will be the guest of the family.

“I met with Mbalula during his visit at Glebelands men’s hostel to plead with him to speed up the investigation and arrest the killers,” Samuel Meyiwa was quoted as saying. “I also invited him to join the family for my son’s prayer. Although he did not commit himself, I expect him to come because when he was the sports minister he spoke highly of Senzo.”
