Figo backs Ezenkosi to get promotion

Jomo Cosmos captain Linda “Figo” Mtambo is backing his team and says they will get promoted to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) this coming season.

Jomo Cosmos, known as Ezenkosi to football lovers, are playing in the National First Division (NFD) during the 2017 – 2018 season.

“As long as we take one game at a time nothing will stop us from getting promoted,” Mtambo told Kathorus MAIL at Vosloorus Stadium on December 10 after the Ezenkosi game against Royal Eagles ended 2 – 1 in favour of Jomo Cosmos.

He said they don’t want to make a mistake by shifting their focus to Highlands Park that is sitting on top of the log.

“Our aim is to play our own game and make sure we don’t lose easy games and capitalise on home ground advantage.

“If we shift our attention to Highlands Park now, we might end up losing our goal, which is to collect maximum points in each and every game we play,” Mtambo said.

This week Cosmos extended their unbeaten run in the NFD to seven games.

The two goals were scored by Mxolisi Macuphu 25 minutes after the game started and by Mtambo himself after the 83rd minute. It was Mtambo’s fifth goal of the season.

The compensation goal for the Royal Eagles was scored by the striker Nkosivumile Zulu after the 32nd minute.

Cosmos climbed the NFD ladder to second position. After 14 games they are sitting at 25 points – four points behind the log leaders Highlands Park who are sitting at 29 points after the same number of games.

Mtambo also spoke about his selection to play for Bafana Bafana.

“It was a dream come true for me when I got selected to represent my country in the Cosafa Cup game against Zambia. I played the whole 90 minutes in that game,” said Mtambo.
