Emergency fleet beefed up
The City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) has put six brand new medical response vehicles worth about R1.8-million on the road.
This is in addition to the new emergency fleet which was launched on August 26.
The new vehicles were recently distributed from Bedfordview Fire Station to different places around Ekurhuleni.
Two of the vehicles will be assigned to cover Kathorus, Germiston and surrounding areas, while the other four vehicles will cover the eastern and northern parts of Ekurhuleni.
William Ntladi, the district manager for media liaison at DEMS, said beefing up emergency service resources would ensure more sustainable and quality service delivery over the expected busy festive season and beyond.
“The City of Ekurhuleni is committed to the upliftment of matters pertaining to quality service delivery,” Ntladi said.
“Strengthening our resources will improve response time and more lives will be preserved.”
As soon as the vehicles’ documentation has been finalised, he said, staff from the metro’s three operational regions will fit the vehicles out with medical equipment and immediately put them into operation.
