Ezenkosi humiliate Mbombela United

Jomo Cosmos captain Linda ‘Figo’ Mntambo says team spirit is the reason his team performed at their best when they humiliated Mbombela United 4-1 at Vosloorus Stadium on November 26.

Mntambo said after going into the break at 0-0, Cosmos had to come up with a plan to penetrate the visitors’ defence.

“We really had to dig deep to come up with a plan, and in the second half we showed true character to score goals and take all the points at stake.”

It was Mntambo himself who opened the scoring with a nicely taken goal 58 minutes into the game.

Ten minutes later, Angel Lebehi doubled the lead. Mxolisi Macuphu scored the third, while Zambian international Clifford Mulenga put the final nail in the visitors’ coffin with the fourth goal.

The only goal for Mbombela United came in the dying minutes of the game, courtesy of Tshepo Lephoko.

Commenting on the win, Mntambo said they wanted to go into the Christmas break on a high.

“It was a good win for everyone in the team, but there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done if we want to stay on top of the log.”

Cosmos boss Jomo Sono said their game plan worked for them.

“I would like to thank my players for everything they have done. They did everything that I told them to do.

“I don’t want to forget the fans, their support means a lot,” he added. “They become the 12th player.”

Sono was cautious regarding Cosmos’ chances of winning the league this season, saying they will take it one game at a time.

“I do not want to comment or make promises to the fans at this point in time.”

The next opponent for Ezenkosi is Witbank Spurs away from home.
