ANC retains Ward 59 in by-elections

The African National Congress in Ekurhuleni has welcomed the results of the by-elections that were held on November 15.

The results of the by-elections means the ANC has retained Ward 59.

The position of councillor became vacant after the death of Clr Teboho Maama on August 10.

ANC Ekurhuleni chief whip Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi said the ANC had retained the ward with 65.8 per cent of the votes.

The ward was contested by five political parties.

ANC candidate Sibongile Elizabeth Mathonsi defeated Pule Percy Ngonzo of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Simanga Ezekiel Tsotetsi of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Sibongile Terresa Mkhize of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and Sakhile Douglas Zondo of the National Freedom Party (NFP).

“This day we are celebrating with the community of Ward 93 in the Eastern Cape, as the ANC won the by-elections by 69.8 per cent of the votes,” Dlabathi said.

Dlabathi also thanked the community of Ward 59 and Ekurhuleni as a whole for showing trust and confidence in the ANC leadership.
