Man (31) arrested for attempted murder

A 31-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and live rounds of ammunition.

The arrest was made in the early hours of the morning in Eden Park on November 3.

Communication official at Katlehong SAPS Capt Mega Ndobe said during the arrest an AK47, R5 and a pistol were seized.

“It is alleged the police gave chase to suspects who were driving a silver Mercedes Benz and a Toyota Ego. Provincial task team had already had a tip-off about a planned robbery in the area. When the task team arrived in the area where the robbery was going to take place, the suspects saw the police and sped off. The chase started, the suspects started shooting at the police and the police retaliated. As a result, one suspect was shot. The suspect was taken to hospital and is under the police guard,” said Ndobe.

He said none of the police members was injured.

Ndobe said the suspect who was arrested will be charged with hijacking, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and live rounds of ammunition.

“In addition to his charges, the suspect will also be charged with being found in possession of stolen goods and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle,” Ndobe said.

The suspect will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
