The foreign delegation, from the Netherlands, was led by the City of Breda’s executive mayor, Paul Depla.
The City of Ekurhuleni has a well-established partnership with the City of Breda.
The partnership evolved from investigating solutions for urban renewal to local economic development and the Aerotropolis.
The delegation visited the City of Ekurhuleni to service the existing memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Chief whip of council in the City of Ekurhuleni Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi extended his gratitude to Depla and his delegates for honouring the invitation by the City of Ekurhuleni.
“We hope that the continued partnership with the City of Ekurhuleni will, in the main, bring forth economic opportunities which will position our city in the global economic sphere” Dlabathi said.
The City of Breda is well known for its service-oriented economy, based on business, trade and logistics.
Therefore, this is a fundamental partnership for the City of Ekurhuleni to improve its industrial capabilities in manufacturing. This will enhance the potential of the region to become a city with a robust local manufacturing value chain.
The city hosts the headquarters of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. This relates to the development of its 30-year Aerotropolis master plan, which intends to enhance the investment profile and position of Ekurhuleni.
Dlabathi commended the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina, for his continued drive and focus to service delivery and growing the economy of Ekurhuleni.
On behalf of the City of Ekurhuleni, Dlabathi thanked Depla for the City of Breda’s consistent commitment to the City of Ekurhuleni.
“The global economic landscape is dire and the major players are dictating a fourth industrial revolution. Therefore, it is imperative that we continuously develop political and economic ways to manage these new trajectories, parallel to competing in the global landscape. We hope this partnership will continue to bear fruit for our people,” he said.
