Real Zone Spin City hosts five-a-side matches

The car-spinning company Real Zone Spin City hosted a five-a-side soccer tournament at its premises in Extension 28, Vosloorus, on September 9.

Richard “Golden” Malaza, the founder of the company, said the purpose of tournament was to give back to the community.

He said this was their way of taking children off the street.

“There are dangerous drugs on the street that lead to crime. So we wanted to do anything to keep children off the street. That is when we came up with the idea of a five-a-side soccer tournament.

“We are planning to run a similar tournament for ladies. And in future we want to run a tournament for gogos so they can keep fit,” said Malaza.

Twenty teams took part in the games.

Each game was played over 12 minutes – six minutes per half.

Malaza said in future they want the venue to support many sports codes.

Malaza said before they transformed the place from abandoned bush and turned it to Real Zone Spin City, it was a crime hot spot.

“People were raped, mugged, robbed and killed in that place. Schoolchildren who were passing by to a local school were robbed of their cellphones,” said Malaza.

Each team played two games before the knock-out stages of the competition.

The results of the games, from the semi-finals to the finals, were as follows:

Izinja Ze-game FC took home the first prize of R1 000, while Zulu Boys FC went away with the runner-up prize of R500.
