Ekupholeni holds its AGM
Ekupholeni Mental Health and Trauma Centre (EMHTC) held its annual general meeting (AGM) at its premises at Maphanga Section, in Katlehong, on Thursday, September 1.
Zodwa Mzondo, the executive director of EMHTC, said the purpose of the AGM was to account to civil society – including beneficiaries, the community, board members, directors and funders.
“We have management, board, AGM and staff meetings. But the AGM is the most important of them all because it is where we account to everybody for that particular year. This includes the funders, to tell them what we have been doing with their money,” said Mzondo.
Various stakeholders, including the Department of Social Justice, the NPA, the Department of Health, the Department of Education, faith-based organisations and beneficiaries of the centre’s services were invited to give feedback on whether the organisation is making an impact on their lives.
One of the beneficiaries, Madoda Xulu, from Zonkizizwe, said he is a teacher today because of the support he received from EMHTC.
“I applied to be a teacher at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and I was accepted. But I had no money to pay for my registration. EMHTC paid for my registration. Today I have teaching qualifications because of them,” said Xulu.
He said EMHTC helped him quit his substance abuse.
“They organised group therapy for me. I attended and came out a different person,” said Xulu.
Xulu said he is now a permanent teacher in one of the schools in Zonkizizwe.
Kayla Pike delivered the financial and fund-raising report, while Rob Wolberg (external auditor) delivered the auditors report. All stakeholders were happy with both reports.
Mzondo told Kathorus MAIL that, given the public demand for EMHTC’s services, they are willing to grow the organisation and extend their services to communities beyond the Kathorus area.
