Art good for the heart

A concert called ‘Sibikwa Goes to Vosloo’ was held on August 26 at Vosloorus Crossing Mall.

Kgomotso Mashilo of Sibikwa Arts Centre said the aim of the event was to create awareness of the centre.

“We also want to keep children off the street and away from dangerous drugs. The only way to do that is to keep them occupied during their Saturdays,” said Mashilo.

During the day, visitors were treated to drama, dance, hip-hop, gumboot dance, traditional music, marimba, African drumming, music theory, recorder and visual arts.

Mashilo said they would like to encourage as many artists from Vosloorus as possible to take part in these items.

She said the event was a success.

“People flocked to the mall to watch Saturday’s performances. The community loved the experience so much that they registered their children for the following year,” she said.
