General Shoke visits pensioners

Pensioners at the Vosloorus Old Age Home received a surprise visit from the chief of the South African Army, General Solly Shoke, on Women’s Day, August 9.

The general was given a resounding welcome as the home’s hall burst into song to welcome him into the township he calls “his home”. Not only was he joined by the joyful elderly in songs and hymns, but he also shared bags full of gifts and “goodies” he brought along, especially for the blind and those confined to wheelchairs.

The highlight of the day was when he sat around the table to enjoy lunch with hosts of happy retirees and pensioners who seemed to enjoy every moment with General Shoke and his team.

And as for the old age home’s management head, Sechaba Mathunjwa, it was a hectic day worth every joyful minute.
