Bikers donate toys to children

Bikers For Jesus held a charity toy run during which they donated educational toys to disadvantaged children at Ekurhuleni School for the Deaf, in Katlehong, on Sunday, August 20.

More than 30 bikers met at the Katlehong Engen garage at 7.30am and at 8am they proceeded to Holy Family Church in Vosloorus.

One of the organisers, Nhlanhla Mkhabela, told Kathorus MAIL that members of the church donated toys before the event.

“We wanted to thank them for their contribution. We also wanted to start the day with prayer,” said Mkhabela.

The bikers left the church at 10.30am and proceeded to the school, where they began their programme at 11am.

As part of the programme, some of the bikers sang for the children.

Children entertained community members with music and dance.

The community came in their numbers to witness the day. They donated balls, puzzles and crossword puzzles as well as other educational toys.

Mkhabela said they wanted to do something special for the children.

“Most of the children of the school come from faraway places. They stay at the school and only go home once a year. Even parents don’t visit them very often. So we as Bikers for Jesus adopted the schoolchildren and pledged that we will do something special at this time of the year, every year,” said Mkhabela.

This was their third charity toy run at the school.

Jumping castles and other exciting activities, including a visit from McDonald’s clown Ronald McDonald, were organised to provide even more fun.

The bikers spent almost four hours entertaining the children before proceeding to Spruitview, where they concluded the day with lunch at Mkhabela’s home.

Mkhabela thanked his partners who helped organise the event.

“The day would never have been this successful if it was not for my partners, Frank Ramolotja and Masedisa Mkhabela,” Mkhabela said.

He thanked the community members for their contributions.

He also pleaded with them to pass on the message so that more community members will come and donate toys in the future.
